Children’s Hearing

We never stop learning and exploring our environments.

In the first few years of life, hearing is crucial in developing a strong grounding for children’s speech, language, social and cognitive growth.

As soon as any type of hearing impairment is identified in a child, early intervention is strongly recommended to ensure the loss doesn’t impact the child long-term.

All children born in NSW have their hearing screened within the first few weeks after birth which is aimed at identifying any congenital hearing difficulties early. This early identification and intervention timeline often results in better outcomes for the child as they grow.

There are, however, some hearing losses which develop over time. As a result, regular monitoring of your child’s hearing is encouraged. Northern Beaches Audiology provides hearing assessments for children from the developmental age of 6 months. Our fully qualified audiologists will vary testing procedures on a case-by-case basis depending on how they child is responding on the day.
